Unlocking is free so doesn't hurt to have it done.

That said you should roam on other Canadian carriers where there is coverage.

If you're still under contract you need to talk with BellMTS asap.

Hi Donald,
Bell MTS does have coverage in the Yukon but it's quite sparse.  If you want to use your iPhone with a different carrier up there you will have to get it unlocked.  As CoryB mentioned though, it is free to unlock you just have to give our sales folks a call to get it done.  They are open Monday to Friday, 8 to 6 and can be reached at 204-225-5687.  Hope this helps.

How is the coverage in and around Whitehorse ?
I am keeping my Winnipeg landline, TV and Total Internet packages. I have my cell registered for Total Internet. If I keep my Manitoba cell account does the Total Internet package cover all data and messaging ( including Apple messaging ) while I'm in Whitehorse ?

In and around Whitehorse is actually quite good.  You can check out the actual coverage map at bellmts.ca/coverage.  As for your total internet package, the short answer is yes.  You would have unlimited data on your device to use as you wish but you would still be subject to the acceptable use policy.  Outside of Manitoba the speed is reduced after 5 GB of usage.  There would never be any overage charges, just reduced speed.

Sorry - one last question. Would there be a lot of roaming charges if the Bell-MTS cell phone was used in Whitehorse ?

Hello again Donald,
No apology needed, we always love helping our customers.  There would be no roaming charges in Whitehorse at all.  Roaming charges only apply when you are out of the country.  Within Canada you are not technically "roaming".  Hope this helps.
