Why do we still get charged a bogus activation fee even when simply swapping an existing sim into a new phone?

Hey Jared and Mr. Clown,

Online upgrading is a relatively new system that MTS offers from behind our MyAccount service. First, you can find out if you're eligible for an upgrade and how much time you may have left on your existing contract. After you've done that, take a look through the handsets, colours and the features that you may want to go along with those phones. Most devices that are available in our Connect stores are also available to be ordered online as well.

Next you can build your own wireless plan with our MyPlan platform. You'll need a plan to go with your new device. With this plan platform you get to choose your own adventure plan wise, it's a customized solution for voice and data that's unique to you.

When you're through with the above steps, you can check out securely using your credit card and we'll ship out your device within a couple of days to the address listed on file. Everything that we send out to you is what you'll need to activate the phone, it will come with a SIM card that is appropriate for the device that you have chosen and will likely already be inserted into the phone. All you have to do after you receive the device is go back to your MyAccount and hit "activate now" and you're up and running!

With the Hardware Activation Fee helps to cover the expense associated with ensuring that all the customer account information is up to date and accurate at the time of it's activation. Helping to establish that the device is properly provisioned on both the voice and data wireless networks and to confirm that the device is properly functioning.

Hope this helps clear things up!

ok we ordered one online and the sim did not come with it so activating it was causing some issues. We ended up having to go to a store anyway so it must have been a processing error. it wasn't the end of the world I was just concerned about customers who live further away from a store that we do thanks
