Why is my phone preferring weaker band 2 signal over stronger band 4?

My phone is connecting to a weaker band 2 LTE signal rather than connecting to a stronger closer band 4 tower. Why is this???

Hi Arkay,  can you send your mobile phone number and the location of where you were when you noticed this to community@mts.ca?

If band 4 is stronger by a certain threshold for a certain amount of time it should switch.

Hey Graham

I'm with Fido now but I can see the tower on McClure Place and my phone is still connecting to the tower at 777 Portage.

Also my phones service menu is spitting out strange info.

When I reset my phone it will briefly connect but then switch towers

Oops, mistook band 2 for lowband , band 2 is our other highband carrier that has the same speed and capacity of AWS. They will load balance depending on which one is more lightly loaded, so this is normal behavior.

Hey Graham

I'm my basement I used to get band 4 LTE at 20 MHz from the McClure site now I'm only getting 5 MHz of band 5 so I think something is wrong thanks

Hi, nothing is wrong. This is very good. Band 5 is what you will pick up in area because the signal penetrates into basements and buildings more then band 4.

Yes but band 4 can provide speeds that are 3 times faster which is why I think there is an issue

If it was band 2 it would make sense

You must have been on the fringe of band 4, the lowband band 5 should provide much more consistent service at a higher signal level

Just tested band 4 (near Clear Lake), pulling 80 down and 108 up (dear God). Inside I'm still getting like 18 down (still better than the lower frequency bands). Very impressed. Band 4 seems like it has some magic frequency attached to it.
