Why does the blue HD light on the front of the set top box randomly light up sometimes when the set top box and tv are off?

I know the green Link light and the blue HD light are supposed to be on and lit up when the tv and set top box are on, but when I turn the tv and box off, the only light that stayed lit is the green Link light telling me I'm still connected to the network. Which I'd expect.

However 2 nights in a row now, since upgrading to Ultimate TV on Wednesday, I've noticed the STB and tv will have been off for hours during the day with nothing but the green Link light on, and then suddenly I'll notice that at some point in the evening, so far usually around 7-9 pm, the blue HD light is now on for no reason even though the box is still off (see picture below).

And yet nothing has changed or has been pressed. But then if I turn the STB and tv on and then off again, the blue HD light goes out again and only the green Link light is on, as seen in the second picture below, which is how it looks most of the time the tv/box are off.

Is it supposed to do that? Is the box faulty? So far it hasn't affected anything, I'm just more confused as to why it would do that randomly with the box being off.

Official Response
Hi Kim,
Jesse was on the right track with his response.  I'm gonna take a stab and say the STB is connected with HDMI, and it does initiate a handshake.  Now with that being said the specifics of your scenario are quite odd and I have never seen it before.  Most often the blue light will stay on after the TV was turned off, but rarely will it come on after the fact... rarely but not never.  I don't think the box is faulty, it might just be initiating the HDMI handshakes to try and maintain the connection to the TV at strange times.  At this point I would suggest keeping an eye on it.  If you start to notice functionality failing, such as the box not responding to the remote, picture freezing or pixilating on that box specifically then give our tech support a call.  They can check it out and even send a tech if needed.
