why do cable companies try and keep you so hard as a customer

Told shaw i was switching to bell mts but have to admit there working hard to keep me as a customer  i keep saying NO  to there offers bell mts here i come next weekend .....

The cost to get a new customer is more than the cost to keep an existing one is probably the reason Shaw is trying to retain you. 

I have read over the years that depending on what  source  you look at it has been estimated that it costs 4 to 10 times as much to get a new customer than to keep an existing one.
