First I was charged (2 months in a row) for data usage on my smartphone, which I do not use, most of my time is spent between school and home, both wifi areas. Now my dad is getting charged for mobile web surfing, on a flip phone, he barely uses the home computer. My problem was from a "data spike", when are you going to fix this "data spike" issue MTS?! I'm sick and tired of being charged for services I did not use! I had to upgrade my smartphone plan as I was getting charged for using 4GB of data in a month! The kicker, every bill thereafter I barely broke 100MB of data usage..I guess mission accomplished on the up sell.

Hi Steve,
The cell phone itself has a unique combination of your cell phone number and SIM card number, any activity that’s done on the device is tracked this way and then sent back to the billing system to be billed at a later point. Depending on what kind of applications you have on your phone and the settings that you’ve given these applications; they can update anywhere from every fifteen seconds to once an hour. Things that have push notifications, or applications that have the okay to play videos (such as social media websites) increase data consumption monthly. You may want to take a look and determine which applications you want to have access to the data network and which ones you’d like to work on WIFI only. As well if you have updated any operating systems lately that may have helped attribute to the trend upwards in data use, there also may be an issue with staying on WIFI networks, some handsets if not on the right operating systems won’t keep on them for long. There’s several things that may be attributing to this, if  you’d like us to dig a little deeper please email us at community@mts.ca and we’ll do our best to help figure it out with you.
