When will the Samsung S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge+ get the 6.0.1 update?

Is there an ETA as to when this update will hit our devices?  The patch came out in earlier this year and a few carriers have already approved the update to their devices.  AT&T released it on April 19th and Telus released theirs on April 18th. The Samsung S7 already received this update with MTS so is there a delay with the S6 update?

First the S7 is majorly different hardware than the S6. In Canada the S7 does not have support for the older CDMA networks while the S6 does. Due to the S6 having network chips specific for the Verizon and Sprint networks in North America, including Canada, it caused major issues with the software upgrade, specially with the AT&T and Rogers/MTS networks. Based on the online reports the update is still not approved for the MTS network. Perhaps one of the wireless folks with the inside knowledge can confirm though.

When is it available for Rogers devices?
This could be a good indication that it's also then available for MTS. Rogers released Marshmallow for the Note 5 today, and coincidentally it's available on my MTS device too..

I can confirm that those devices will be getting the update but since the software is pushed to the devices by the manufacturer we are unable to release a date that it will occur.  We do know it will happen soon! Keep your eyes peeled for update notifications popping up on your devices.

Doesn't MTS stall the updates to test them internally?  With the updates being available on other carriers that would mean the update should be available on my device but my phone is reporting that it's not available.

Yes mts could release the update if they wanted but they want to make sure no one has problems with the new O.S . personality i think that mts should let people update at their own risk and when mts releases Their tweaked update you could download that one

Making me really mad. The S5's already have marshmallow on most Canadian carriers (including Rogers and their quite slow) Got an email from MTS saying there was no ETA and they had to make sure product testing was OK. This just gets me worried on how long it will take for the S6 to get Android N.

Question - how come Android phones don't update by manufacturer like iPhones do? As when IOS has an update it is available same day across the world? You would think Android would do the same.

Android support 3rd party applications by the carrier so because f that it takes longer for different device with different carriers.

It actually depends on the phone and choices made by the vendor and carrier. For example the Nexus line and the BlackBerry Priv were designed to only support updates directly from the manufacturer, no carrier approval step on those devices. Other manufacturers, like Samsung, work much more closely with the carriers. The trade off is those manufacturers get favoured placement in retail outlets and featured in commercials, etc but the carrier then gets a say over the software on the phone. It is one of the many layered choices people make when selecting a phone that they often do not fully understand.

How long would you estimate it will take for me to get the update on my s6 edge because I understand that the s6 operates on different networks and mts has to tweak the software a bit but I was just wondering if you could give me a rough estimate

We all know its not the manufacturer that puts out the updates they send them to you first then you tweak them and then put them out

MTS does NOT tweak an update, at most they run tests to see if the performance meets their standards.

Ok then why is the update not out yet because the manufacturer released the update a few months ago

The update isn't out as it hasn't passed testing.

Basically Samsung tweaks the update sends it to carriers for approval. The carriers such as MTS test if the features work as promised. Something doesn't work it is sent back to Samsung for more tweaks.

No one wants an update that is going to take the wireless network down for EVERY customer so that is why they test.

The 6.0.1 update was available on my phone and I was able to upgrade to it!  The update was 1.4 GB and requires a Wifi connection to be able to download the file.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Marshmallow 6.0.1 Update.

When is Marshmallow 6.0.1 going to be pushed out to MTS Customers who have a Galaxy s6 Edge? Most Canadian Telco Companies have pushed it out in April and May. Just wondering why MTS hasnt yet? or have they forgotten about it?  Other Telco's are already pushing out 6.0.1 to Galaxy S5 users. Even my Galaxy Tablet got the 6.0.1 update two weeks ago!

Come on MTS......the S6 users have been waiting forever! Whats taking so long?

Does anyone have any information or inside knowledge about when it will be pushed out?

Im an actual MTS employee and i cant seem to find anyone in the company who seems to know anything about this!

A little ironic the older S5 has had the Marshmallow rollout start but the 2015 devices (S6, Note 5, etc) are still on hold. I have said it before, there were major issues with that hardware design. It is possible those devices never end up receiving Marshmallow. If that happens hopefully there is a speciality loyalty discount offer from Samsung to get people to upgrade to an S7.

Note 5 already got Marshmallow. I've had for awhile now..
However still on the May Security Patch level... When June and I think July ones are already out.
Can't tell me now that they will be more pushed to devices when the devices get Marshmallow... Cause that ain't true at all.
I don't know how a Security Patch Level... To make a device more safe and secure..."has to be tested by the carrier", in this case MTS.
Maybe someone from MTS can explain? Tech Dept maybe?
The device manufacturers have pushed the patches out, Samsung in my case...but a carrier needs to test a security patch (like a full OS upgrade) still first? It's security for an Android device..not an OS upgrade!
It appears no Canadian Carriers are giving their devices some security love...only the US ones...

The push of monthly Android security updates is a case of phone by phone and carrier by carrier. My wife's Priv gets monthly updates as does everyone I know with a Nexus 6P, even ones bought through a carrier, yes even in Canada.

Anyone have any updates on Android Nougat? Hoping that roll out starts soon...

Considering Marshmallow is still being released on devices and Nougat is still in the beta phase I doubt there will be any official news on that new Android OS.

But I keep reading that Nougat will be out any day for my phone.

PS Any updates on when Marshmallow is coming for the G3 Vigor, asking for a friend?

Edit: I figure we are within about 60 days of the Nougat launch.

Unfortunately this is only for Nexus devices (Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P) which get their updates directly from Google. There isn't any info on when this will be launched for the Samsung's, or other device lines.

My thinking was that once Nougat is out people will simple stop caring about the small differences between Lollipop and Marshmallow.
