MTS has pulled the CDMA shutdown notice link off of their support page so I am not sure what their current plans are.

Hello Drew,

We looked into what is happening in the near future with the CDMA sites.  We have not finalized plans for our CDMA network. There may be select CDMA service sites turned down and a reduction of CDMA coverage but a complete shutdown is not anticipated prior to the second half of 2017.

It's an important question to know the answer to for those still using CDMA devices.

Thank you for posting it. :)

That's what I would have thought it would be on there webpage , she said she got a letter from MTS saying that she had upgrade her device before the end of March.

Maybe Tennille or Megan can give us an  official  update on Monday if the status is changing.

Good morning gentleman!

There were bill messages attached to January bills and a text message sent to CDMA users during the first half of January.

The messages would have been to relay this information:
Our roaming partners will be turning off their CDMA networks in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and some parts of Quebec beginning January 31, 2017. As CDMA customer you will not receive service while roaming in these areas. The changes our roaming partners are making do not affect your service in Manitoba. If you require wireless coverage outside of Manitoba, we encourage you to upgrade your phone to the HSPA/LTE network and take advantage of MTS MyPlan or MTS MyPlan for Business, the wireless plan you customize yourself.

As you can see this does not affect your service in Manitoba, only outside of Manitoba.
If you visit mts.ca/cdma you will find the latest information regarding the shutdown of cdma services for roaming at the very top.

I hope this helps, if you have additional questions please let us know.

Tennille :)
