Wow I can't believe MTS still charges for things like call forwarding and  call display. Shaw includes this in their basic phone package, I guess MTS doesn't care about being competitive anymore.

Depending on your home phone package. If you are in Winnipeg and get home phone essentials these options come free.

The deal hasn't gone through yet and still needs to be approved by the government and CRTC. MTS is not owned by Bell yet.

this has nothing to do with Bell.  MTS usually increases the prices around this time of year anyways.  they are just making the remaining theme groups 4 dollars each as most of them have been 4 dollars since last year.
If MTS raises its price of Home Phone Essentials and continues not to offer any Customer Retention and/or Loyalty offers on its Home Phone service, I may never return to MTS for my Home Phone and High Speed Internet bundle.

Home Phone Essentially is not the most clear name as, to me knowledge, it is not the cheapest wired phone service from the company. The Home Phone Essentials bundles a basic wired phone line with three calling features and a preferred rate on long distance.
When I was subscribed to Home Phone Essentials last year, I did find it offered value over the cheapest Wireline Phone plan if you don't subscribe to Long Distance.   I found out that Home Phone Essentials was cheaper than the sum of the Individual Residential Line Rate & the Long Distance Network charge, but it was not competitive with the additional marginal cost of Home Phone service ($15/month) when added to a Shaw Cable TV and Internet bundle or any VOIP Home Phone service.
