Still on contract, but bought new phone outright from Apple

So I bought the iPhone 6S from Apple the other day, I still have my iPhone 5S on contract, I went in today to switch phones and they just took the SIM card out and put it in the 6S. The guy didn't do anything on his computer or anything, so does this mean my 5S is still on contract? I'm looking to sell it, and I don't want the person that is buying it to run into problems when they go in.

You can sell the 5S with no problems. Best is to just call MTS and let them know you bought a new 6S and are going to sell the 5S. What way they can take it out of your name so the buyer doesn't have any troubles activating it.

Hey Shannon,

Thanks for reaching out! I would suggest reaching out to the Connect store again and having them update your file accordingly with the new serial number of the device. Just to keep things up to date. Once that's updated - you will be able to sell the device but if you're selling it to someone who's not on the MTS network it will need to be unlocked. To have a device unlocked there is a charge of $50.00 + tax.

Do you happen to know if you have our additional insurance program? If so, then we may need to take a look into things to make sure that your coverage is still in tact. If you don't, then disregard.

I'd be happy to take a look and provide more information if you subscribe to our insurance program. Please email us your cell number, first and last name to community@mts.ca and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Gillian
