I know sports net one is on free preview, but given that Rogers has decided that no jets first round playoff games will be shown on anything but sports net, any chance the great hockey sponsors at MTS could give us a free view of all of sports net for the playoffs? I don't want to pay for all the other sports channels I'll never watch in that ridiculously priced bundle!

I believe the Sportsnet channels are $10/month and given how much Jets fans are doling out these days on tickets, jerseys, and t-shirts etc. I don't think that is an unreasonable amount to pay to watch on TV.  If you went to a sports bar and watched the game, two beers will cost more than that.

I do think that the broadcasters decide on free previews.  I don't have all the details at my fingertips on cancellation criteria for that package but I don't think you need to keep it forever - you can cancel after the Jets win the Stanley Cup  - $30 to watch that unfold would be well worth it..:)

MTS TV offers more choice and flexibility in packaging than any other TV distributor in Manitoba and more than almost any other distributor in Canada.  Our customers who are long-term subscribers to our Sports Fans theme group (including Sportsnet) enjoy the programming that the package offers.  Our customers who have chosen to not subscribe to Sports Fans also benefit from our packaging by not being forced to buy sports channels they don’t want in order to get other channels they do want.

For at least some of those customers, Sportsnet will become more appealing while the Winnipeg Jets are in the playoffs.  For everyone, it’s a question of assessing the value.  Sports Fans costs $7 per month, and it may be cancelled any time after the first month.  The Jets are guaranteed at least four playoff games (to roast the Ducks).  The worst case is, therefore, $1.75 per game.  The more games, the lower the price per game.

At MTS TV, we recognize that sports programming is expensive, and we make every effort to minimize the price for our customers.  The vast majority of the $7 price for Sports Fans is paid to the sports programmers, who in turn, must pay the leagues and the teams for the right to exhibit the games.  Whether or not a channel is offered on a free preview is a decision made by the channel.  We think that’s unlikely during the playoffs.
