Slow cellular data southeast of Anola

We live approx. 15km southeast of Anola. In around June/July we started experiencing significant and consistent data issues with our iPhones, which had been working just fine since purchasing them a year ago. The connection has been very slow and we often aren't able to use our phones for data. I'm fairly sure it's not our devices, since they work better in Winnipeg.

We've had a zBoost YX545X cell phone booster for two years now. It has worked great and made a significant improvement until around June/July. Since then, the booster doesn't seem to help much at all. It's been checked and there are no visible signs of a problem with the booster.

I've seen in this online community that other people have been having similar cellular data issues in rural MB for about two months. Has MTS done some recent work that has caused this degraded service?

Without the booster, we have 2-3 bars of 3G signal and 1-2 bars LTE outside on the west side of our house, which is the direction of the cell tower in Anola. Inside the house, it ranges from 0-3 bars 3G, depending on where we are in the house. We often aren't getting much better than 1 mbps download speeds in the evenings (if that), and sometimes we can't even do a data speed test because the connection isn't strong enough.

This has been very frustrating since the cellular service and cell phone booster had been working fine until a few months ago. What happened?!?

Yes what has happened to MTS service in rural areas. So disappointing to have good service and then it's so sporadic. Are the towers in such poor condition? Congestion is the usual answer the tech's like to give you. If they have that much of the market MTS should be trying to give us a better consistent signal!! They also shouldn't be selling boosters to the people in rural Mb. If they are not going to help. In Kollarney I was told that the signal is good for 4 km. That's right only 4 km out of Killarney!!Wow it's 2015. Service was better with s booster in 2012-early spring 2015. Something has happened!! The question is what and why can't it be fixed?

Hi Joyce,

Wireless is a constantly changing beast. Consistency can be difficult with changing environmental conditions. Weather, foliage, elevation and surrounding buildings can all affect wireless signals. There is also congestion that plays a role since we cannot control how people are using their cellular devices or accurately predict how many people might be in a specific area at a certain time (if we could that would be amazing!).
Depending on the type of phone you have, CDMA for example, services may be affected since the CDMA network is being turned down.
As for boosters, MTS Inc. doesn't supply boosters but some of the MTS Connect stores do stock boosters. Boosters can also be purchased online from the manufacturer and other retail outlets. It's best to do research before installing and using a booster to improve service. MTS can assist with that investigation process.
If you're having issues with your services I'd be glad to see what the issue is that could be causing it. If you send me your cell phone number via community@mts.ca I can get it looked into for you.
I hope this helps answer your questions!

Tennille :)

LK, would you mind sending me an email at community@mts.ca with the phone number of the device you're using and your precise location? Either a physical address or a legal land description so that we can provide you with a more accurate, tailored response.

Thank you!

Thank you LK, we received it :)

We live northeast of Anola and have the same issues. Even leaving the city heading east there are many deadspots where service is either slow or lost. At home we use a booster as well as without it we are lucky if get a bar of service. We are only 16 km from Anola, and about the same distance from Beausejour. And our phones are constantly switching from LTE to 4g. Especially in the last couple of weeks.

Good morning LK,

I do apologize, we didn't have any new information for you quite yet. We're waiting for results from a drivetester - someone that tests wireless signals to determine where the signal is the worst and provide information to assist with a resolution.
