S5 Shutting Down and Restarting Multiple Times per Day since last Security Update

Hello,

Last Wednesday my phone notified me that there was a security update and to install it. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone that I got in November 2014 (contract is almost done). So I installed the updates. Since then my phone will stop while I am in the middle of something (like typing a reply on the forums), shut down and then restart. It's very annoying. Is there anyway to roll back security updates? I have attached pictures of the "About Device" screens if that helps.

I don't know if this is related... but I can no longer copy from my device storage to my SD Card Storage. I can access the files on the SD card but I cannot write anymore (18GB space remaining so not a space issue). My camera was set to automatically save to the SD card and since last week it has started a new folder on the device and can longer automatically save to the SD card. Do I need to take the SD card out - copy all the files and format?

Thanks in advance for any help from community members or MTS representatives directly :)

The power off/restart screen isnt popping up randomly by any chance, is it? If not...then I would backup all the data and perform a factory restore. Could be that something became corrupt during the update.

No its fully freezing then shutting down and restarting. I will try the factory restore later this week.

I have seen similar restarts on other devices running the same version of Android (Marshmallow) but not repeated ones.

I agree with Dustin that something may have gone wrong with the update and you have to do a restore.

Just out of curiosity have you booted up in safe mode to see if the problem still happens?  If the problem does not follow then there is a 3rd party app (if you have any installed) that does not work properly with the update.

Good luck with that K! If I were in your shoes I would be incredibly frustrated! Kudos to you for being so calm about it. I use my phone extensively through out the day and would likely have taken it to the store on the first day! :)

Update:

Ok. I booted in safe mode. It solved one of my problems... I was able to copy from device storage to the SD card when in Safe Mode. Unfortunately after about 30 minutes... The device shut down and restarted on its own while still in safe mode. Once out of sade mode though... I cannot copy to the SD card again (but at least I freed up 2GB of space while I'm safe mode)

Tomorrow I'll pull the sd card out and see if that helps the restarting issue.

Update:

Pulled the SD card out on Friday and haven't restarted once since.... So what could the possibilities be now? Do I need to copy all that data to my PC and then format the sd card and try again?

Copy the data. Could be a bad card or bad data or both.

Yup. Get a copy of that data ASAP! You can try formatting the card and using it again...but if it was causing the reboots it is likely corrupt and will most likely continue to cause issues.
