Record SportsCentre once a day

When I  try to record Sportscenter as a series around 1 AM daily it records it 6 times - 6 hours in a row starting before 1 AM and ending after. Is there any way to limit this range?

Set it to only keep one or two episodes then it will at least keep overwriting itself.

I would also change the setting from first run and rerun to just first run to see if that helps if you have not done that yet

None of the highlight shows are marked as first run in the guide. I tried this and nothing recorded.

Hey Andy,
There is an option in the recording settings that allow you to record around a specific time, and it sounds like this is the option you have yours set on.  Usually this only captures maybe an hour before and after the requested time but it may be capturing differently for you.  There is another option that allows recording any day, any time, once per day.  This option may work better as it would prevent the repeated recordings.  If you select one of the recorded shows and go to record settings, select for the entire series and then you can make the adjustments in there.
Hope this helps.

I tried that option but it records at midnight one day and on other days in the afternoon or evening, effectively missing the previous day's highlights. If this option had an "Around this time" setting it would be perfect.

There actually is an "around this time" option.  That's usually the one that's applied by default when a series recording is setup in the guide.  It sounded like that's what you were already using but if not I would definitely suggest giving it a try.  You might even be better to delete the current series recording setup and re-create it.  Just select the one you want to series record in the guide, and hit the record button twice (slowly with a delay between presses).   This should setup a series recording for "around that time".

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I am using the around this time option but it uses a 6 hour range as the show repeats itself from about 1 AM on for the entire night. Sports Central does the same from about 10 PM on for the night. I can limit the repetition to 3 hours if I pick the first showing, but this might miss it completely on another night when something else is on. Picking a later time results in 3 hours before and after being recorded. I only keep 2 of the recordings but it's very wasteful. And I can't keep more than one day. If the Guide listed the first showing as first run or the once per day option had a time range, things would work. But right now, it can't be done using series recording.

Another factor tripping you up is the nature of SportsCentre is the exact airing time changes with almost no notice making guide errors very frequent.

Yeah, that's an annoying spot to be in.  Sadly there isn't much more that can be done that i can think of.  And because of the way they are programmed in the guide selecting first run only wont work as they all appear as re-runs in the guide.

One of the big challenges is SportsCentre rarely airs at the same time. To add to the fun TSN basically uses it as a filler program to pad its schedule.

I know it's not perfect but it looks like TSN Go has most of the clips in event specific format instead of a highlights show.

There is only so much you can do with how the guide works and this might be one of those tricky ones that doesn't have a really good solution.

Simple solution would be add a daily option to the manual recording feature. Anything else might mess up normal series recording.

Doing some quick checks it looks like SportsCentre runs on channel 1022 every day at 1 am per the guide listings. You could set it to record that channel with a prestart and overrun at that time each day and should be able to capture it. That assumes you are perhaps watching it when you get home after working a night shift.

Hey Andy,
I did a little more digging on our recording options and I found one that may work for you.  It seems there is an option to setup a manual recording for a certain channel at a certain time, completely separate from the guide information. When you are in the recorded TV section, arrow to the right and select add a recording, then select the option at the bottom to add by date and channel.  You can select the channel, date and specific time frame to record.  The only catch is you can only set it for a single instance so you'd have to manually setup for each day.  Fortunately it saves the channel and time so you would just have to go in, change the date to each day and save each day individually.  It may take some time to setup, but it may offset the time you spend deleting all those extra episodes.  Hope this works for you, let us know if it works out.

Thanks Jeremy - the extra episodes get deleted automatically since I specified "keep only 2 episodes" in the series recording.  I'm using the series recording to avoid having to manually set things up each day, and it does work with some overhead.  I think that's the best I can do with the current firmware.
