Random Speed Drops

Since about Feb I have been seeing many times where the speeds drop from a normal 25+Mbps to 1Mbps for upto about 1 hour then it starts working again.  I have confirmed with 6+ people when this happens and they all have the exact same issues at the exact same times I do.  MTS has replaced the modem (which I told them was a waste of time) and still this happens.  Well MTS cannot find the issues that has been plaguing many customers in Brandon and I assume even other communities so what is it going to take to fix this?  I have included some speedtest.net results which show the speed drops. THIS IS NOT A COMPUTER ISSUE.  Also a picture I included using the program PingPlotter shows a problem at one of the hops which is within ALLSTREAM (former MTS partner I think).  MTS just had to come in and replace my modem again today since a tech support rep appears to have pushed a firmware update that failed and bricked the modem.

Official Response
Hi Dylan,

Looking at the data here it seems that there is a problem with maintaining a 25Mb connection to Chicago.  I am not a Traffic Analysis, but from what I think I see here the issue is occurring at leg 5 - which appears to be the Allstream interconnect to Equinox in Chicago.

It appears the end result is you are trying to access a set of game servers in Chicago owned by Nuclearfallout Enterprises.   Is this the RIOT servers for LOL?

If that is the case, this is not something MTS has direct control over, as it is beyond our network.

This was something Graham was looking into a while back, back as he mentioned in the following post - https://community.mts.ca/mts/topics/new-riot-servers-and-mts?topic-reply-list[settings][filter_by]=a...

Given that the traffic issue seems to not be ping related, but rather speed related, and it seems to always be late evening, it may be an issue with capacity on one of the legs outside our control.

None-the-less, I will follow up with Graham and see if he can look at this data, as he is much smarter than I on this stuff.
