I have a desktop computer that does not have wifi in it, I am wanting to hook it up in the spare bedroom of my home. I just moved last week and all the services are running fine (i have ultimate tv and internet) but they didn't hook up a wire in the spare room to connect the desktop to the internet. I was told to ask if there is some kind of WiFi card MTS would have so the computer can access wireless internet or any other option then paying to have them come put and run a cable in the spare room.  I have a router at home form my previous apartment, so i can use that if needed (but would it have to be hooked up to a MTS cable box or something, which i dont have in this room)  looking to see if there is anything besides paying to get them to come out or something i dont know about (which is very possible!). Any ideas would be helpful.

Hey G,

You do have other options other than getting us to come and run a cable into your spare room for your computer, however there may not be a good free one.  Your options would be to either pick up a long cord and run it yourself.  It would have to go from the main 2wire or Pace box that we installed all the way to your computer.  Another option would be to pick up a wireless card from a store like Best Buy, Future Shop, Memory Express, or someplace like that and connect it to your computer.  You would just have to ensure the card you get is compatible with the OS you are running (Windows XP, Vista, 7 or a Mac).  On the plus side, because you have Ultimate service your MTS equipment has built in wireless capabilities so you wont need to try and hook up your own router.  Your final option, as you already know, would be to get us to come down and run a cable for you.  So as you see there really isn't a free solution however there are some cheaper ones.  A 50' ethernet cable might run you $30 or so and a wireless card can cost anywhere from $40 to $100, depending on how high end you want to go.  For MTS to come run the cable you are looking at about $70 for the visit and the cabling.  Another thing to consider is your time as well.  Running a cable yourself could be a pain, installing a wireless card (depending on the kind you get) likely wont be difficult and you could just call in to our Technical Support group after it's installed and we can help you get connected so that wouldn't be too hard.  Getting us to run the cable could be the most expensive but it would also be the easiest for your as technically you wouldn't have to anything at all except let our technician in.
I hope this helps with your decision.
