I remember the 1MM very well as I was involved in the launch in the late 90's.  We do still have the equipment in place across our networks and there are customers who do use it.  In communities where we have it in place there should be other options for the customer to migrate to if they want. Your friend can send us their details to if they want to know what options they have or they can simply call our contact centre.

The way that technology works is that the card in the Central Office is likely still being used to provide voice dial tone for that customer whether they are using for internet access or not.

Definitely a great piece of technology in the 90's that allowed a number of customers to access the internet at speeds faster than dial-up and certainly was one of the reasons for Nortel's success during that timeframe.
