Anyone know who put up the new tower on the East side of Keneston just South of IKEA? Hard to say since across the street is a tower with every carrier and everything (GSM, HSPA, LTE) all deployed on it.

Is that the one at the RR crossing south of Ikea? It has been there for more than a year with no antenna(e). Maybe Fido or Telus? Kind of curious myself...

That bare tower is one of the 4 or 5 that were put up for Wind by a tower rental company (SBA communications)  before Wind sold off their coverage in Winnipeg.

No it's very close to that one, it has antennas on it, it's a mono poll, can't be Fido or Koodo, don't think it would be Telus as they have one across the street. Only thing I can think is this will be LTE-A or low band LTE for the MTS network or the partner network as the one across the street looks pretty crowded with antennas.

When you say east would it be by Lawson Crescent and the rail line to the concrete plant?

If so it would be the new Rogers tower that had the consultation notice  in the paper about 5 or 6 weeks ago about going up in that area.

If it is the one, it went up fairly fast.  I guess being in an industrial area there is less chance of any opposition.

Oh is it? Yeah I remember it went up fast. That's interesting seeing that Rogers has one on the other side of the street a little to the southwest with GSM, HSPA and LTE on it already.

Just looking at the Canadian Cell tower map site and I am wondering if maybe this is a replacement for the site that looks to  be on top of the Inland Cement silo behind Ikea.

or it could mean that they are co locating on the Rogers tower that was advertised for the area.

I wouldn't believe that, as that says they are pleased to announce the site has been put up there, it doesn't say they are pleased to build it. I remember seeing the article from Rogers that Clifford was talking about. Also when LTE was rolled out, MTS was pleased to anounce the roll out of their LTE sites, but never mentioned anything about sites the network partner rolled out, they just appeared on the converge map and quietly on some news articles.

The one reason why I could believe that it's a MTS site is because the one across the street that's shared wth Telus is a Rogers site, it has Rogers GSM antennas on it, and that new site we are talking about here has no microwave antennas on it as far as I can see, and I know that's what Rogers and Telus use mainly for transport.

OK. I was out that way this afternoon and the Rogers tower  I was thinking of has not yet been built in the industrial area east of IKEA so ignore my last couple of posts above speculating about that being the tower Dan was asking about.  That tower may still show up in the future as providers have 3 years to build after approval is given by Industry Canada

I did see that the  bare monopole tower  that sat further south on Kenaston   (owned by SBA communications and was built a few years ago in anticipation for Wind coming to Winnipeg) is probably the one that Dan is talking about as it now has antenna's hanging and an electronics package in the compound.

It is conceivable that MTS has now leased space on the tower thus the tweet that ARKAY1_SID posted.

I can think of at least 4 more that SBA has in Winnipeg so I wonder if MTS will also be doing something with them for coverage upgrades.

This is the Kenaston mono pole tower I am talking about that is not bare anymore https://www.google.ca/maps/@49.8277855,-97.2075046,3a,75y,356.43h,97.21t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sy4z7NqU...

when I drove by today it has a set of horns on it and electronics at the base.

these ones https://www.google.ca/maps/@49.8413569,-97.2090107,3a,75y,257.07h,101.37t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1soHVCzC... are the base for the IKEA sign that was taken down for being unsafe in a high wind load.

Other then those two sites I can't think of anything in the area other than the tower west of IKEA off of Mc Creary Rd and the one north of Costco in the cement plan yad.

Yeah that first one. That's the one I see now with antennas on it now and everything. Who built that one?

that was suppose to be a tower for Wind Mobile that is owned by SBA communications.  Its empty twin is behind the Harley Davidson shop by the mint.

there are also some SBA sites in the Inkster Industrial Park area and a few other scatted ones in east Winnipeg.   Some are mono tube and some in the open fields  or heavy industrial area are the standard steel truss

SBA also has one site with some sort of weird antenna off Graven Rd south of  the gravel pits in the RM of Springfield.  It looks to be a broadcast style (not cell) but I have not been able to find out for who yet.

Here is the SBA site location map but for some reason it is doing funny things today

How come all of the sudden this Keneston one has antennas up on it now?

Looking at the tweet a few comments above it looks like MTS may have leased space on the tower to improve LTE in Lindenwoods.

Lot quicker to lease space on an existing structure than to have to have community hearings, get permits to build a new one, tender for construction from the bare ground up etc.
