Network Switch Problems

I Purchased a 16 Port DLINK Switch as I needed more ports for my home network.  Router is full and I want to hook up my receiver and another computer.   Problem is that when I feed a line from the router to the switch and then to the computer or receiver or anything,  the connection is terrible.  I have plugged in my MTS box as well at one point and the TV signal becomes pixelated (sp) and freezes. Does anyone have a solution to this...or does MTS have approved switches for a home network?

Hi Philyphan,

The issue you are describing is quite strange.  I myself also use a dlink switch, it is only a 4 port, but have no issues.  A couple question for you regarding this trouble; Does the connection work fine when connected directly to your MTS router?  Are there any settings or firmware built into this switch.. or is it just a straight dumb switch?  Have you tried connecting the switch to all ports on the MTS router to see if there is any change?  It is possible there could be something wrong with the switch or the cabling, or even the MTS box if you have issues connected directly to it.
