MTS Tower in Clearwater Bay Ontario

There is a CDMA tower in Clearwater Bay, Ontario. This tower has actual MTS antennas on it, possibly has Ball and TbayTel antenna on it too. But will this ever get upgraded from CDMA to HSPA? It would be nice to use the actual MTS network and not use TbayTel's network. This way MTS customers and use their unlimited data and have free long distance to other MTS Wireless customers. If you understand what I am trying to say, Thanks!

Hi Dan, nothing to share yet but we are examining the options.

I am in the same boat as Graham and many others that are in the lake country that rely on the Clearwater tower - in the Spring I could get 3G/4G now only EVDO - and seems to be regulated down on weekends (SW controlled to us cottage country MTS roamer's ?) even with my cell booster I can only get the E service now (which in late April was 3G - 3-4 bar's (Samsung Note 4)) which means phone call's only no data service

Hi Kevin,

MTS has CDMA deployed in that area, if you are picking up edge (GSM) or HSPA/LTE it will be from one of our roaming partners. Keep in mind that the cell radius of 3G/4G tends to shrink under heavy usage due to interference, that is probably why you are seeing the difference in coverage.

any plans on HSPA/LTE to be boosted to cover a larger area ? (yes it is great when you are near a tower but as you stated outside of a certain range it is pitiful) Falcon has LTE correct ? I went with the unlimited data across Canada so I could use it at the cabin and installed a booster - but seens this heavy weekend usage (which I assume is what you mean by interference) has limited that now - so Bell (kmts) your roaming partner does not SW control the data access on weekends ? just odd that Friday night comes and I flip to EVDO from 3G Sunday night back to 3G

TBayTel has indicated to us that they made some configuration and tilt changes on this tower - if you have noticed a change for the better or worse please let us know.

Thanks

so the tower at Clerarwater Bay is TbayTel not Bell ? I heard that another cell tower is going up on Hwy 596 (North of 17A) Road to Minaki - have you heard anything on it ?
I am now running 2 booster's in the cabin at LacLu (a Wilson mobile version where I leave my Note 4 on the pad all the time and a Uniden U2 all house (with Omni ext antenna around 40 ft up) I do get 4-5 bars (data is slow on the weekends) but I also now force it to HSPA and works better for data)

Sorry Kevin - we don't have any information on what is going on outside of Manitoba - TBayTel didn't indicate that they are putting up any new towers last time I talked to them.  We don't have the ability to provide HSPA or LTE in Ontario so we are at the mercy of our roaming partners.

Hi Kevin, E will give you data too, it is just very slow. Sometimes when I am not using my data too much I restrict my phone to E only so save battery. You can still send texts and calls no problem!

Hi Dan - it is the data (tethering) I am really after also - great to be able to get call's but need to get emails etc - which I did get fine last year and early spring - now seems to have been degraded (I did run a Iphone 4S last year now Samsung NOTE 4 - so from a 3G phone to a LTE - doubt that did anything to affect it)

I have noticed the Samsung phone's do not get as good as HSPA signal as the iPhones, I have found the iPhone 4S is even better then the iPhone 6 and 6S
