MTS pvr box resetting in middle of the night

Something I have noticed ever since having ultimate tv is that I will be watching tv in my bedroom recordings then will get a message saying that "the pvr is inaccessible please check the pvr box" or similar wording! The pvr is then resetting its self, is this a common maintanene or does it happen in batches as when I have called MTS in past they were unaware of any work being done. This is not the biggest issue in the world It only happens once every month and a half or so and always between 2-5am. Everything else is working properly my other boxes have been running for over 2000 hours so I know that's not an issue and only affecting my main pvr. Thanks Gordon

Hi Gordon,

This is definitely not normal behavior.  The only regular updates that I know of that occur that might be around that time are the guide updates, however i don't believe this should cause your STB to reset.  As for network maintenance or firmware updates they are sporadic and not as regular as it sounds like you are describing.  It's possible there may be an issue with your STB.  I do find it odd that it is so regular but it's possible the guide update is causing the issue to occur, which again is still not normal.  It might be worth while to have one of our technicians take a look at that for you, it might even need a replacement.

you know I experienced this problem back even when i had ultimate tv back in 2011! It can even go 2 months sometimes without a reset. Its just not bugging me enough to request service on it at this time more of just curious then anything!!

I can certainly understand that, if the issue isn't too much of a bother a service call is sometimes more of a hassle than it's worth.  The timing does sound like it could possibly be related to the guide updated but it's just a guess at this point.  One thing you could possibly try if you are inclined would be to attempt a disaster recovery on the set top box.  It's basically like a complete factory reset for the box.  With it being the actual PVR having the issue this reset would cause all recordings to be erased so you may want to hold off if you have some shows saved up.  However if you want to give it a try I can provide the steps, or you can contact our friendly neighborhood tech support  by phone or by webchat and they can walk you through it.
