MTS Payphone removed from Public Park

I am very disappointed that MTS has removed the payphone from our Public Park (Binscarth Park & Pool) Myself and one of my committee members have spent an entire season trying to find out why it was removed as no one told us and also trying to get one put back in its place.

So it turns out that MTS payphones agent tells me the payphone was removed to have a new type of payphone installed (but now the dumb part) we can't get the new one reinstalled because it needs to generate a revenue of $100 per year and the last 2 years it only generated $47 and $49. Also because we are located 2.2 KM outside of the town limits we can't qualify to keep it. Aperently these phones are a courtesy service and not put in place in the event of an emergency.

This is sad so our pool is located where MTS also does not provide cellular service and the only means of communication was this public payphone. Being that we are a seasonal operation and can still generate $47 a year in the 3-4 months we are open proves the need for communication.

I am posting this in the hopes an official rep sees this and can somehow reach out and help me discover a solution to getting some sort of payphone reinstalled or alternative.

It would be devastating to have an emergency situation in the evening when our office is closed and no one would have the ability to call 911. Even a Micro, Macro or Pico cell to extend service to the area would work but I would suspect a payphone would be more cost effective.

Hi DXintel,
After speaking with the payphone coordinator here it's our understanding that the available options that can be taken have been presented to the Binscarth public park. If you would like someone to reach out again please send us an email to with your phone number.
