I just noticed Band 2 LTE (20 Mhz pairings) and Band 5 LTE (5 Mhz pairings) are now live in Winnipeg! If you have a Samsung or or LG Device you can select the band manually.

I wonder if the new bands are related to the number  of  outages scheduled for wireless service upgrades in Winnipeg last week and  this week through the 27th.

I wonder if North/East Kildonan and Elmwood have it done yet or when that will be done.

I think there were some outages here last week, but no idea if they were for this or maybe related to re-tuning coverage for the new  Rosmere tower.  (or both?)

Looks like more upgrades in our area last night.

Jul 28: We are completing a network upgrade between 12:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., which may impact LTE data service for up to 7 hours at Kildonan, Kildonan Drive, North Main, Rossmere and Valhalla areas in Winnipeg.

Interesting as it seemed like MTS was doing some network work late last night but I am outside those areas. Lost internet and tv service overnight for a block of time.

have you been looking at the outage preview page lately?  MTS is doing a whole lot of scheduled outages lately.

I was noticing there are even daytime LTE outages so I wonder of those ones are requiring the contractors to climb the towers to work on the antenna arrays.  The overnight ones are probably just changing transport circuits or electronic parts on the ground.

9 scheduled for wireless and about 6 for TV/Internet in the next week.

The over night can also be upgrading the backhauls.

How do you select it manually on a Samsung or LG device?

on the Galaxy devices, open up the stock phone dialler and dial *#2263#. That will open up a network menu where you can select which network and band you want it to connect to.

LG should work in a similar manner, but the dialler codes and menu options will likely be different.
