Started noticing intermittent connection to LTE (previously and currently not supposed to be here). Until Tonight when this happened, the connection was poor and much slower than 4G. However tonight I did a speed test because I had full bars at LTE and I got 14mbps down and 6up. Stayed that way for about 20min,then randomly dropped by to 4G connection. Why am I being teased? Will this be permanent aoon?

  • Frustrated that we still have such a slow connection when everything around us has LTE

No expert here but when it occurred in my area it was a good sign, I forget what the overall time was from when it initially started till it was launched but it did happen... :) Fingers crossed for you. :)

Looking at the map I would assume you were picking up a low band LTE signal from a neighbouring tower. They may have done some enhancements and now you are picking up the signal.

Netset just put up a new tower in town - I read that they were being friendly and allowing phone providers to use/rent the towers... Was hoping this was testing... Thoughts?

I do see there is a HSPA tower Manitou right now, it could be possible they are testing LTE on that cell tower but I wouldn't know, someone from MTS would have to comment on this.

What do you think the chances of an MTS tech answering here?

My Guess is that they are adding an LTE site in the area, and are undergoing testing.  I know when they added HSPA/LTE to the IDC site, it was up and down a few times for testing over the course of about 2 weeks.

No techs want to comment?

We're always working on expanding the network footprint for our customers.  Until a tower or upgrade is ready to go live we don't have dates to release.  Once the expansion with a new tower or additional coverage goes live there are announcements for the customers on mts.ca and often on our social media platforms.
We can also respond to this thread if any new information is released! :)

Mystery solved, that is a lowband LTE signal from pilot mount 25 km away. I'm impressed you're actually picking it up at that signal level of -118 RSRP,  the S/N of -8 RSRP is very clean though which is why it is usable.

Bah!  That means there was no testing being done and Manitou is still in a Pocket of Death for signal.    Netset has a new LTE tower they set up in town here for Internet, any chance MTS could piggyback off of it?

Our HSPA tower there would be able to serve LTE fine and has transport already, I checked and I don't see it on the build list this year, the HSPA sector facing town isn't loaded as much as others in the network currently. I've let our planners know of your request though :)

When you say it's not on the build list this year, but isn't loaded....does that mean you don't see LTE being established in 2017 unless somethign dramatic happens?

That is the current outlook, priority is given to relieving sites that are at capacity or forecast to be at capacity. We'll keep an eye on it though.
