Hey Mark

I think Lightning Reach is the Marketing term for HSI over ADSL essentially, but Tennille would probably be a better resource to answer that. I'm just a tech guy ;)

I believe it's a service that is only offered in a low population area which causes the price to be higher since there is less people in that area to make it cheaper.

Only places I see  listed on the MTS web page for this service are Lynn Lake and 4 remote First Nation Locations.

Sorry Jared what makes up for the $99 install fee since the modems would be self install

We no longer book self installs for hsi. I believe its been over a year. If my memory serves  me correct I believe we still charged the 99 for a self install as we still would send out someone to take care of the adsl port.

But still if you could offer free install in all other towns in cities it just seems to be a cash grab because I'm sure I tell the size of rivers with still have MTS employees there, or is there more involved to service asdl in those towns?

The guys are all right in this case, including what CJ said:  'Lightning Reach is the Marketing term for HSI over ADSL'. It's an easier term and not as technical. :)

So the only thing different is there's a $5 more charge a month plus the $99 install fee what makes up for the $99 install fee as those towns have post office box's so you would just hook up the asdl yourself just like it used to be right?

interesting that the MTS website doesn't have the full list that Jared D provided. There are some fair sized towns in there so it's not all remote areas like I thought.

A town like rivers for one you would think that it would be included in the Lightning reach then ; (

Lightning Reach is just an area where MTS can charge $5 more per month then a area with standard Lightning plans. The network is the same in some cases still using an ADSL network. I have lightning reach in my area where I live and just 2KM down the road the homes have just the standard Lightning Plans for $5 a month less then me. Plus I only get 3Mbps due to my location.

Ture I'm not sure if there's a set up charge or not either I'm just going by what Jared said.

Tennille: Hi do you know why it's 5 dollars more and a 99 dollar setup fee? Thanks.

Part of the "Reach" part, speculating here, is a long loop length and quite possibly some special hardware like a signal booster or a repeater. If you are the only customer on that extra 2 KM of cable an extra $5/month really isn't too bad a day as it likely doesn't cover the costs.

As for the speed, keep in mind regardless of where your service is, urban or rural, the further out in the loop (service run) you are the slower your speed will be. It is one of the basic facts of DSL service.

Thanks Cory that's what I would think too but too have a extra 99 setup fee as well, and the town  Rivers has a central office right in town and it's all under lighting reach as well.
