Hi Debbie,

Yes, you are allowed to change your plan as long as the plan you build is above the minimum you agreed to in your contract.  If you're unsure of what your minimum is, contact us to find out and to talk about your custom MyPlan.

two questions

1) do these plans still qualify for inclusion in the MTS bundles?

2) how do these plans integrate with options like the combined voice mail box?

Hey Clifford,

1) MyPlan is eligible for inclusion in the MTS Bundles (2-6 service bundles).  MyPlan combinations of $55.00 or higher are eligible for the Home Internet & Smartphone Bundle.

2) Combined Mailbox is available with MyPlan.  We only list our most popular features on the MyPlan Builder, but this feature can be added to your MyPlan.

Clifford, good news! We did some further checking and Combined Mailbox is available with MyPlan.  I edited my previous post to remove any confusion.

I like the new flexible plan building structure.

Some points I have noticed which could be important for people:

- The "Flat Rate" data includes only 2 GB of data outside Manitoba before "excessive usage" applies.
- The "Flat Rate" data remains subject to "excessive usage" (15 GB) in Manitoba.

I am disappointed though to see that the device subsidy still remains tightly bundled into the overall service cost. It is not hard to calculate the device subsidy is around $20/month so why not list it as its own line item? That way people can see there service cost and device financing costs separately. The added bonus would be that the "service cost" could be advertised as "$45" and compared with competitors that remain tightly bundled with a $65 cost. That the prices are based on customer owned and unlocked devices could be placed in the small print next to the excessive usage clauses which it seems most users overlook.

Hey Gordon,

MyPlan is the only plan available as it is completely customizable to your needs. If you are looking for one of our Data Share plans for tablets, Freedom North America, or a Buddy plan contact us for your plan options.

that's good to hear!   you know this is actually I think the best thing in the market right now and I hope that MTS continues to offer plans like this in the future.  one thing that would be cool would be also allowing share plans on this in the future.  like sharing data with iPad/Tablet , family member , friend etc.

I was looking over the weekend at maybe moving to a different plan as I am off contract and they had a number of different ones up on the web site.

You go to the cell plans section now and all they have is this build your own plan so I would say its a good bet this is what all new and upgrading customers can get.

The one thing some customers might find it overwhelming to pick there own plan, I think it would be good idea to have this new plan which I find very beneficial for myself , but also have pre designed plans for customers to choose from also.

Hey Gordon,

Good news! The MyPlan Builder does include 5 options with some of our more popular combinations. Once a pre-built option is selected, customers can then customize as they wish within the builder.  The Data step also includes a calculator to help you determine the amount of data you may need in a month.

So If I understanding correctly....please correct me if I am wrong.

I have the $65 unlimited data plan in Manitoba. If I switch to this new plan...$20 base + 17.50 for 500 mins + 27.50 for flat rate canada wide data = $65 per month

I gain: Unllimited International Text messaging (is this US only or does this include places like the UK?) and I also get 2 GB of Canada Data.

I lose: 500 minutes of daytime local calling (500 minutes vs 1000)

Question: Is Flat Rate Canada Data.....still mean I get my 15GB in Manitoba? Also I am planning on cutting TV later this year and getting internet and cell phone only...do these new plans still qualify for the bundle discount. Thanks

Thanks and if that's all correct...where do I sign? lol

sort of looks like they qualify if I read  properly what Martin from MTS posted in the 3rd question from the top when I asked.  As I read it you need the $55 plan as the lowest plan to qualify.

Just to clarify on the bundle eligibility, the $55 minimum is only applicable for the Home Internet - Smartphone bundle (i.e. has to be a Smartphone plan).

I switched today to the Smart Phone Plan #2 which is the $20 basic fee + 500 minutes + canada wide data (no tethering). IT was pretty simple.

She said I can text any number in the world now. I also don't have to worry about going over 400mb when I leave the province.

All I lost was 500 daytime minutes (I had a 1000 but I only use about a 100 each month anyways) and I will still qualify for the smartphone and internet discount when I cut the TV later this year.  :)

I was a little worried though.... because the old plan was Voice (25) + data (40), this one with three parts - features (20) + voice (17.50) + data (27.50) just seems like there could be more tinkering and fee increases easier applied to us in the future. I hope I am wrong, but I guess time will tell.

K - I think we are okay for a while with no price increases because they would have increased it with these plans if they wanted to.  maybe down the road in a few years but If I recall they don't touch the plan portion in middle of contract only features are with a 30 day notice. glad to hear you like these plans!  I think they are onto something unique with these plans much like the mybundle is unique to mts.  Have a great weekend.  Gordon

I don't think its any more complicated than the build your own car section of the auto manufactures and a lot of people use that feature  to see what car options they can get and the estimated price.

I wonder if new customers will even look at it,  they will just go down to a MTS select store select a handset,  and let the sales rep ask a few questions on how much they expect to use the voice, and data and get their plan built that way.

Is the Buddy plan still available?

Right now I am on the 1000 minute talk and text plan for $40.00/m plus buddy plan for $18.50/m (we average around 700-900 minutes per month that varies alot: 800-100 vs 100-600 between the phones each month) for a total cost $58.50/m for 2 phones.

To switch to the new plans it would end up costing us $85.00/m...but we would have unlimited local (which we wouldn't really use)

Hi Teamocil,

Buddy plans are still available, but not with the new MyPlan.  Contact us to discuss your Buddy Plan options.

Can you confirm this? I have called in and have been told from several people that the Buddy plan has been phase out and they are unable to sign people up on it anymore (even if you are currently on an older plan).  I think a cheaper option for 2 people who want to share minutes on a non-data plan and don't use their phone much is an area that is completely gone with these new options.

Hi Teamocil,

I can confirm that there are still Buddy Plans available. As Martin mentioned, they are not available with MyPlan, nor with plans that include unlimited airtime or unlimited data. You can contact us to discuss all of your buddy options, but the plan you mentioned above is indeed still eligible for Buddy Plans.

Hi Raven, yes! MyPlan is still available if you bring in an unlocked device. You'll also get a 10% discount on the plan for doing so.

so are you saying that when you get a new phone and plan from MTS that you are only required to pay $6 a month on a 2 year contract? A new phone and plan should be about $35 a month, yes/no to cover the cost of the phone? That's a big difference that doesn't equal 10% off.

Question: international SMS text messaging is included, does that also go for MMS pic msgs too?  just curious.

I can clarify this for you, My Plan gives you Unlimited SMS and MMS messages while you are in Canada to any International number.

MMS messages use data however to send their pictures and such, (same as imessages on iphones), and so they will us up some of your Cell's data plan when used. (Not a ton mind you, but still some is used). So if you only have so much data and are sending MMS, playing games, facebooking, etc, it will eat up your data.

If you are outside Canada, well then the same rules as always will apply, a Text abroad package will be needed to send SMS, and you will need to have a data pass to send MMS/imessages. (imessages can be sent/received when connected to wifi)

So as long as you are in Canada and have a data plan, you can text or MMS anyone in the world and My plan will have you covered.
