Home phone static in Transcona area

Hey, guys, slight issue here. When I went to test my family's phone in the kitchen, I hear static. Something must be wrong. Any way to fix it?

Could either be a problem with the inside wiring or the outside BellMTS wiring. If it is just the one phone in the one jack its probably the telephone.

when I get near a computer I'll add a few things to isolate the issue as its too hard to type 1 finger on my cell right now.

If it is isolated to only that phone and you have two phones in the house try this:


1. Test kitchen phone in place.

2. Test other phone where it normally is located.

3. Move the other phone to the kitchen and test.


If step 1 has static and 2+3 don't it is an issue with the phone or it's cords which could be replaceable.

If 1 and 3 has static but 2 does not there could be an inside wiring issue specific to that location.

If you have static on all three of those tests it is hard to estimate without further testing scenarios.

Thanks Cory, I finally just got back to a PC and was going to respond along the lines of what you typed.

I'll just add a couple of thoughts:

If you have any unused jacks in the basement  or your house has one of the rare external phone jacks, check to see what condition they are in.  I have seen the pins in the jack opening green with corrosion causing all sorts of problems to the point its either cut the jack out and replace it or disconnect the wire at the interface point if there is no need for a jack there.

If BellMTS comes out and the problem is not on their side of the customer  interface point and you don't have the optional  wire watch program the cost was $33 per hour and it may have gone up by now.

If you are a customer that has a  Test point in your basement you can test to see if the problem is on your side or on BellMTS's side.  Not all  customers have them as they were only installed for a short time,  but here are the instructions
