Dropped phone is completely unusable. It's an iPhone 5c can I activated my old S4 on my existing plan? As I don't have the money to pay out the rest of my contract and get a new phone.

Hey Darren,

I'm sorry to hear about the mishap with your phone. That's disappointing.

You are able to activate another device to run out the remainder of your contract for sure, providing the SIM card is compatible between the iPhone 5c and the S4. Do you happen to have our insurance feature on your account? If so, if it's just recently happened (in the last 60 days) you're able to make a claim pay the deductible and receive a like for like device instead.

If you'd like me to take a look and confirm, be sure to send me an email to community@mts.ca with the details of your account and I'll look into it from there.

What happens if the Sim cards are not compatible? And are Samsung and iphone's Sim cards the same. We just cancelled the insurance at the beginning of august as we have had the contract over a year.

The iPhone 5C apparently uses a nano SIM (smallest size) while the Galaxy S4 uses a micro SIM (second smallest size).

Also the S4 will need to have been used on MTS before or be an unlocked phone. If it was previously used with a different company it may need to be unlocked.

If the SIM cards are not compatible you will need to purchase a new SIM card through an MTS Connect store. The cards run about $10.00 + tax. They'll also be able to swap out the devices and get you back up and running on the device of your choice. There also may be a charge for the device swap at the store level, generally ranging from $25-$35.00.

Cory is right, the S4 would need to be an old MTS phone or an unlocked device if it was previously used with another provider.

The s4 is an old mts phone. Would there be an activation fee for the new Sim card or just $10 and what the store may charge?

Sorry Darren and Sandra, the charges would only be what Gillian listed above.  If they try to charge you anything else you may refer back to Gillian's post here. :)
