Extremely slow internet in Winnipeg

Experiencing bouts of extremely slow internet at certain times of the day. Google, Gmail, web pages load at a snail's pace.I have rebooted the modem,checked my computer for other applications running that could slow it down. I have the higher speed internet package. My MTS modem is an older model. Do I need a newer modem? Ran an internet speed check during a slow time and was getting only 5-7 mbps download/ 1.5-1.6 mbps upload speeds.

Hi Gail,

5-7 mbps down and 1.5 mbps up is actually still a good internet connection speed.  Now this may be slow compared to the plan you have but that sounds like an acceptable connection on the lightning 10 plan.  If you are experiencing slow browsing it could be related to browser issues as speeds of that nature would definitely not cause slow surfing.  I would suggest trying a browser clean up.  This consists of clearing your history and cache.  Additional information on this specific type of problem is available on our MTS.ca support site and can be found HERE.  I hope this helps answer some of your questions but if these steps don't help to resolve the issue I would suggest contacting our technical support group to investigate a little more directly and they can be reached 24 hours a day at 204-225-5687.
