dsl and telephone

My landline telephone has gone down after a backalley visit from an MTS maintenance truck.  I still have internet and my cell phone works - intermittently.  How is this possible?  Aren't my DSL and landline on the same 'wires' or is my computer hooking into my cell phone to access the internet?

Dsl and dial tone are provisioned differently and merged on your line in the local neigbourhood at a patching cabinet on the side of the street.

The tech you saw may have been in the cabinet and while working on another customers line unknowingly disturbed the connection to the  dial tone part of your circuit while leaving the DSL part alone.

You are going to have to call MTS 24 hour repair service  @ 611 and have them come out to look at your circuit.

I know that there are people posting in here that there is a 2 day if not more wait for a tech so the sooner you call the sooner you will be back up.

Hi Erin,
I hope you were able to have your troubles addressed.  Clifford is correct, the phone and dsl service are provisioned separately and are also connected separately in the roadside box.  It was likely just an error, something got bumped while the tech was working in there.  It's sometimes quite the rats nest in those cabinets so that can occur sometimes.
