Download Speeds drop in peak time

I have had issues with my download speeds during the past few months (and maybe longer but I hadn't been tracking it). I live in La Salle and my line profile says I can only get 5 Mbps max which is irritating but I understand that I am too far from the nearest PED. Everyday I do 3 speed tests. One at 7am, one at 5pm and one at 10pm. At 7am my speeds are consistantly 4.5 - 4.9 Mbps which is ok. As soon as everyone gets home from work at 5 my speeds drop to under 1 Mbps (usually around 0.5-0.6) and they stay at these speeds until around 11pm when everyone goes to bed. To me this is unacceptable. I called tech support and I was told that is simply loading in my area and there is nothing they can do about it at this time. The issue is that I live in a new development and new houses are built and connected without upgrading the infrastructure (back end equipment in the area). I believe this is a serious issue and would like some explanations other then there is nothing we can do. Sorry for the long winded comment I had to get that off my chest.

Hey JT
I'm sorry to hear about such a significant impact to your service caused by congestion.  We know this is a growing concern in some rural areas and are trying to address these as quickly as possible.  Unfortunately I don't have any details or timeline when updates or upgrades are scheduled for your area but I can assure you from past experience that issues like this definitely play a factor in the decisions of what areas to upgrade and when.  I wish I could give you a better answer or even make some suggestions to have the issue addressed but if you've already spoken to technical support and already had technicians out to investigate they would know best.  I sincerely hope the issue in your area gets addressed sooner than later as I'm certain you would not be the only person affected.

Since my last post I have been given a little bit of extra info regarding your area.  Seems the issues in La Salle are already on the radar and a resolution is already in the works.  Additional capacity and upgrades are already in progress and we are aiming for end of May for completion.
