This is a problem which has been going on for a couple of years. Very slow to no service in the Clearwater / Deception Bay area in Ontario. Back when I was on 1X/EVDO service on my HTC Touch Diamond, same problem was happening. I called support and within a DAY (on a long weekend no less) they went out and did something to the tower and the service improved drastically (data and voice).

Since I went to an LTE/4G Samsung Galaxy I find that the service is absolutely pitiful out in this neck of the woods. Particularly in evening hours or when it's raining out and everyone is surfing the net on their phones. This is a result of tower congestion no question about it. It's not just me - all my neighbours in Pye's Landing campground experience the same problems and a lot of them are only a few miles from the tower. Worse, calls to tech support have resulted in brush-offs or 'we can't do anything about it' types of answers. Well you solved the EV-DO problem in a day so I know something can be done. Sounds like MTS is just sticking their head in the sand and hoping it goes away. I'm almost tempted to get a T-Bay Tel SIM card for next summer so I can get on a provider that at least cares.

Official Response
Good morning Gord,

I have personally been working with TBayTel over the summer regarding service at that location. When you are there you are actually using their network, the same as if you had a TBayTel SIM. We don't have the same visibility into the performance of that site as we do with sites in our actual network.

I heard about complaints from a number of customers and some of our own employees this past summer. TBayTel did add some capacity and adjusted the site in mid July and things did improve from what we had heard through our employees and in discussions with TBayTel.

I will go back to them next week and get a view of the performance of the site and see what their plans are for the area.

It is a bit of a unique situation in that most of the usage of the site comes from Manitoba residents but the site actually isn't in Manitoba or MTS' direct control.

Hope that clarifies things for you, have a great weekend!!
