Cell service for Clearwater Lake, Cormorant and Moose Lake near The Pas

Currently, The Pas has 1 cell tower and the next one in the region is North of Wanless. We have been suggesting a cell site at a place called 'Frog Creek' for many years. There is currently a tower there. It's proximity to Clearwater lake, Moose Lake and potentially Cormorant seem to make this an ideal location. Currently, MTS has issues with several of the buried lines around Clearwater that results in frequent loss of land line service. Recently, several homes were without service for several days. Given the fact that we have an aging population in this area plus many campers/visitors in this area and also some isolated roads with little traffic, it would seem like a good investment by MTS to provide cell service to this area. If MTS would check it's records for land line repair callouts, I have no doubt that this area will prove to be unusually high. I hope that MTS will put this on their expansion list in the near future.

Phones are dead again at Clearwater. Regular occurrence. Still no response from MTS regarding cell service for this area.

Hi, make a complaint to the CRTC or CCTS and they may be able to make MTS fix the service faster. You are entitled to a land line anywhere at a full time residence anywhere in Canada and it must be reliable.

Thanks for the suggestion Dan and Dave. We have called in the problem and they have said August 25 I believe. Long and short is that if someone from MTS would either look at the service calls or talk to the local repair guys (we know them by first name) for this area, MTS could see that there has been an extremely unfair # of line failures for this area.

Highly recommend CCTS as they are consumer facing group meant to help resolve issues with telephone service.

Thanks Dan for the reply. Guess at this point, I truly hope MTS will consider looking at this upgrade. While I know little about cellular equipment, I know enough to have a rough idea of the things to consider when dealing with open area frequency transmission. In my opinion, this is a spot that would provide service to a large catch area (2 main highways, at least Clearwater Lake homes and boaters, numerous off road trails and possibly Cormorant/Moose Lake. Since this area is such an active tourism and recreation area, I feel that it would not only add convenience and modern communication, but also add safety.

Yes let's hope they will look into adding more coverage in that area. Possibly if the BCE deal gets approved Bell will be able to provide more coverage in areas like yours.

Just a guess but the tower currently providing service could be the old Rogers tower and the unused tower the old MTS one. When the networks colocated they reviewed the signal footprints of both towers and decided the Rogers tower was superior and that the second tower would only marginally improve on using the single tower. To save on costs the one tower approach was used.

No 'old' Rogers towers here. Rogers has only come here in recent years and shares MTS towers. The tower I am referring to is close to Clearwater lake and besides the improved coverage I listed earlier, it would also improve cell service at our local municipal airport.

Latest update for land line repairs. MTS, to add insult to injury, has parked their service vehicle in OUR driveway to repair 3 other land lines that are currently down but the guy has no plans to look at our line today, even though we are 30 minutes from town. We will see. This is why we NEED cell service in this area.

Hi there,

We appreciate you letting us know that the service has not been fixed at this point. Our Billing team will certainly be following up with you after the issue has been fixed, to make the appropriate adjustments to your account to compensate you for your time and patience.

Thanks,

Well phone was finally 'fixed' Tuesday. We checked to see if there were any messages. We changed the greeting to reflect the fact our phone wasn't working and to try our cell. There was just 1 message. It was from MTS telling us to make sure someone was home when the repair truck showed up. Really?
Now today the phone has a bad 'crackle' during most calls. MTS appointment is Sept 13th. Does this not further indicate the need for improved (cell) service?

Silly question, between the likely repair time on Tuesday and the start of the crackle did it rain where your service is?

It has rained, but not for some time now. Crackle is still too unbearible to have a conversation.

I would suggest set up another service appointment once again. Also make sure MTS offers you at least a $50 loyalty credit on your bill.
